TL;DR: Anthropic’s standalone Claude Design site (claude.ai/design) goes read-only after December 14, 2026, because Claude Design now works inside the regular Claude app. Design systems can move today. Moving projects to Claude (“Move to Claude”) is rolling out gradually to paid plans, along with a download of all your projects. Anthropic says originals, including chats, are deleted “some time later.” Chats, comments and public project links don’t carry over. If anyone on your team made mockups, decks or one-pagers there, plan the move now.
What happened
Anthropic’s help center now says “Claude Design now lives in Claude.” New designs, design systems and slide decks are created as artifacts inside the Claude app, and Anthropic’s product page says Claude Design works in any conversation, including in Claude Code and the Artifacts tab. The standalone site at claude.ai/design stays open until December 14, 2026. After that, it becomes read-only and you can’t start new projects there.
The date isn’t brand new; Anthropic’s guide has carried it for over a week. What’s new is the reminder: a recent Claude Code release (version 2.1.302) added a notice to its /design-sync and /design-login commands saying the standalone site “closes by December 14, 2026.”
Claude Design is available on the Free, Pro, Max, Ultra, Team and Enterprise plans, so this affects solo users too, not only companies.
Why it matters
Anthropic’s guide splits your work into three groups.
Design systems can move now. One move brings over every design system in your organization, including other people’s, and anyone who can use Claude Design can start it. Empty design systems aren’t moved, and neither are ones made from a built-in starter theme, even if you edited them. A moved design system can’t be edited directly on its page yet; you ask Claude to make changes.
Projects can move once Move to Claude reaches you. Until they’re moved, projects keep working in the standalone site until December 14, and the Artifacts page in Claude lists up to 60 of them. Anthropic says moving a project to Claude is “rolling out gradually to paid plans,” and that a download of all the projects you own is rolling out with it. Only a project’s owner can move it, and the standalone copy becomes read-only after the move.
Some things don’t carry over at all. Your chats with Claude and comments on projects and design systems stay in the standalone site and are deleted “some time later,” along with the originals. Public links to standalone projects stop working after December 14. After December 14 your originals become read-only, with one exception: the owner of a project that hasn’t moved can still change its files, so they can fix it and move it. Anthropic says originals are deleted “some time later,” per its data retention practices.
Two details can catch a small team out. If a design system is published and not private, moving it shares it with everyone in your organization. And organizations on zero data retention can’t turn on artifacts, so they can’t move anything and have to download their projects instead.
What to do
- List what you use. Open claude.ai/design and note every project and design system you still need, plus any public links you’ve sent to clients or put on a website.
- Move design systems. In Claude, open the Artifacts page and click “Move team design systems” in the “Claude Design lives here now” banner (or pick it from the Claude Design menu). On individual plans it starts right away. Once Move to Claude is available to your organization, design systems no longer have their own move; they move the same way as projects. Anything under “Didn’t move” has a “Fix in Claude Design Standalone” button that runs a check and lists the files in the way. Anthropic notes the
uploadsfolder often holds duplicate files, so it’s an easy place to trim. - Move or export the projects you’d hate to lose. If Move to Claude has reached you, the project’s owner can move it, and the download of all your projects appears on the standalone home page. If not, for each project, open it in the standalone site, click “Share,” choose “Project HTML” (for slide decks it’s under “More formats and apps”), keep “Project archive” selected and click “Export.” You get a .zip with every file. Anthropic says this is free and doesn’t count toward your usage limits.
- Copy out chats and comments. They won’t follow you. Save any client feedback, decisions or prompts worth keeping.
- Replace public links. Anything shared from the standalone site breaks after December 14. Swap in an exported file or a new link.
- Team and Enterprise owners, check settings first. Under Organization settings > Artifacts, artifacts must be on. The Design systems, Design and Slides templates are on by default for Team plans but off by default for Enterprise. While Design systems is off, the “Move team design systems” button is grayed out for everyone except owners.
- Set a reminder. Our advice: put a date in early December to confirm nothing is left behind.
If you mainly used Claude Design for slide decks, ChatGPT has a similar feature now; see our note on ChatGPT Slides. And if you’re also moving off models that are going away, Google’s Antigravity model removals on November 2 are a nearer deadline.
Updates
- Nov 3, 2026, 12:02 p.m. Manila: Anthropic’s guide now lists Ultra among the plans, says the standalone site becomes read-only after December 14 (owners of projects that haven’t moved can still change their files), says originals are deleted some time later, and says moving projects and a download of all projects are rolling out to paid plans. The design system button is now “Move team design systems.” We updated the TL;DR, the explainer and the steps.
